A feature traditionally requested in Linux and other Unix-like systems is the ability to see, in our file manager or other similar applications, the creation date of a given text document, image, audio, video, etc.
In Dolphin, we usually find the Modified column , to which we can also add the Accessed column and even the Created column (which for now still displays a pristine white).
That will change with the release of KDE Frameworks 5.58 in mid-May. It will no longer be necessary to use the terminal and search through inodes to access a file's creation date. The good old `stat` command :
[jose@replicante Documentos]$ stat archivo.ods
Fichero: archivo.ods
Tamaño: 10483 Bloques: 24 Bloque E/S: 4096 fichero regular
Dispositivo: 807h/2055d Nodo-i: 16815664 Enlaces: 1
Acceso: (0644/-rw-r--r--) Uid: ( 1000/ jose) Gid: ( 100/ users)

Now that column will be full of information, thanks to the statx function (the evolution of stat, so to speak). It's currently compatible with current versions of glibc (>= 2.28), the C library from the GNU project that provides various APIs and system calls.
These capabilities, already implemented in the kernel (since Linux 4.11 ) and the most common file systems in GNU/Linux, such as ext4 and Btrfs , are now reaching the user's commonly used programs.
As a result, we will have an even more appealing KDE desktop , for both new and old users, capable of providing more complete and specific information.
You can find more information about this news and the week-by-week development of the KDE project on Nate Graham's blog . Interesting news that is also regularly covered by our friend Victorhck in the free world .
